Folic Acid in early pregnancy cuts risk of Autism

Babies born to women who take supplements of the B vitamin folic acid in early pregnancy are significantly less likely to develop autism, a developmental delay characterized by problems with communication and social interaction. The findings of a large Norwegian study reinforce those of other researchers that folic acid supplements are important to a healthy pregnancy.

 

Antibiotics in pregnancy tied to asthma in children: study

Children whose mothers took antibiotics while they were pregnant were slightly more likely than other children to develop asthma, according to a Danish study.

The results don't prove that antibiotics caused the higher asthma risk, but they support a current theory that the body's own "friendly" bacteria have a role in whether a child develops asthma, and antibiotics can disrupt those beneficial bugs.

While fate determines some fertility factors, a new study has suggested that oral issues may play a key role.

A recent Australian study compared rates of periodontal disease with the speed by which women conceived. Of 1,956 women (average age 31) seeking to become pregnant, 74 percent had healthy smiles, while the remaining fourth had cavities.
