Hadith 16: Do Not Become Angry

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man said to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), “Counsel me.” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

لَاتَغْضَبْ

“Do not become angry.”

Hadith 1: Intention (an-Niyyah)

Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say:

إِنَّمَاالْأَعْمَالُبِالنِّيَّاتِوَإِنَّمَالِكُلِّامْرِئٍمَانَوَىفَمَنْكَانَتْهِجْرَتُهُإِلَىدُنْيَايُصِيبُهَاأَوْإِلَىامْرَأَةٍيَنْكِحُهَافَهِجْرَتُهُإِلَىمَاهَاجَرَإِلَيْهِ

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) would put his blessed right hand under his blessed right cheek. He would lie on his blessed right side facing the Qibla.

Al Hussain (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I asked my father how the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) behaved in his sittings, and he said, ‘the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) never got up or sat down without mentioning the name of Allah. He forbade designating a certain spot to a person so that he would consider it as his own. He sat wherever he found a spot. He also ordered others to do the same, when they entered a sitting. He divided his time equally and justly among his companions who sat with him.

The mosque of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) played the role of the seat of the first Islamic government. In the mosque, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to spend long hours on a daily basis discussing, deciding and executing many affairs related to administering the state. Jihad (striving in the way of Allah) and state defense strategies were also initiated and concluded in the realm of the mosque.

It is narrated on the authority of Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “All actions are judged by motives, and each person will be rewarded according to their intention.  Thus, he whose migration was to Allah and His Messenger, his migration is to Allah and His Messenger; but he whose migration was for some worldly thing he might gain, or for a wife he might marry, his migration is to that for which he migrated.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari, Saheeh Muslim)

After settling down in Medina on return from Hudaibiya, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) instituted another plan for the spread of his Message. When he mentioned this to the Companions, some of them who were acquainted with the customs and forms observed in the courts of kings told the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that kings did not entertain letters which did not bear the seals of the senders. Accordingly the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had a seal made on which were engraved the words, Muhammad Rasulullah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
